Kel Jackson grew up taming ponies and scaling mountains...
…in a place with no stoplights and too many stars to count. It was here on a little farm just outside of town where Kel fell deeply in love with fashion. Using the family's slate coffee table as a runway, a pint-sized Kel would hold fashion shows to show off her impeccable taste whenever the occasion arose. Sketching in the margins of her homework, she would daydream about the wonderful clothing she would someday create.
Working as a freelance apparel designer tackling any project from tween underwear to outerwear, she stumbled upon an opportunity to explore Color Design. Kel started her Color Design career as part of a concept think-tank creating color concepts and palettes. Through this process and insatiable curiosity, she explored every aspect of color design for products: dye chemistry, color achievability, insight collection, trend forecasting, and color strategy. She used this expertise to build color concepts from dyestuffs to end products for a wide variety of products, materials, and consumers. Inspired by the children's consumer, she took her expertise to children's footwear. Here she was a concept driver for and a key player in reconstructing insight collection for her team. Always wanting to dig deeper, Kel moved to London, UK, to pursue her PhD in Design Research at the Royal College of London, examining color as a tool to help designers explore bias in the design process.
Kel currently resides in London, UK, working as a design consultant, researcher and educator.
